Paul SammutPAUL SAMMUT

Born in Rabat 11th December 1945. Studied at the Lyceum, Secondary Technical School, Paola and the Teacher’s Training Collage at Ta’ Xbiex. He joined the Education Department as a teacher of Biology for 37 years. He is married to Theresa and has a son Alexei.

His interest in Entomology goes back to his early schooldays. He studied the Lepidoptera of Europe and Malta. He has collected information in many countries such as Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, France, Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Turkey, Morocco and in the rain forests of French Guiana.

Author of numerous publications on Lepidoptera, namely A Systematic and Synonymic List of the Lepidoptera of the Maltese Islands, Die Geometriden der Maltisischen Inseln, Il-Lepidoptera and many other shorter publications in various international and local scientific entomological journals. Co-author on publications on Maltese Marine Mollusca such as the four volume work The Marine
Shelled Mollusca of the Maltese Islands.
Author of the translation in Maltese of Charles Darwin’s
The Voyage of the Beagle. Member of various international entomological associations amongst
which the Linnaean Society of London.
